Dr. Frances O. Thompson is a member of the Cambridge Who’s Who Executives as the first black woman director of the Hudson County’s small, minority and woman business, who studied the County’s procurement practices and its effects on leadership styles. She is widely recognized for her skills in leadership in diversity, affirmative action within the public schools and public procurement and recently named American Conference on Diversity Hudson County Chapter’s 2013 Humanitarian of the year.
With more than 27 years in public service, Dr. Thompson work has expanded in education and her direct work with the community over a career that has included Benefits Administrator and Employee Assistance Program Officer for the Hudson County Vocational Technologies School; being elected School Board Member and Chairperson of the Affirmative Action Committee for the Jersey City Public School District. Her business expertise is demonstrated in her current role as Director of the Hudson County, New Jersey Office of Minority and Women Business Enterprise; a program she has directed since 1993 playing a significant role in creating opportunities for small, minority and women owned businesses to succeed in public procurement on major projects resulting in millions of dollars awarded to these organizations.
A dynamic speaker and a well-rounded facilitator. She is highly engaging as a motivational speaker who frequently addresses businesses on issues like networking, ethics, starting your business, the public procurement game, team building, and organizational and time management skills.
Dr. Thompson sits on the Board of Trustees for the University of Phoenix’s Jersey City Campus, Team Management 2000 and the Jersey City Educational Arts Team. She has received numerous awards including the Cambridge Who’s Who Executives (2011-2012 and 2009-2010), the Hudson County Leading Women Award (2009), Hudson County Baptist Ministers Community Service Award (2009), Jersey City Chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People Leadership Award (2007) and Odyssey International Production Award of Excellence (2006).
Dr. Frances O. Thompson is the Founder and Managing Director of Frances O. Thompson Associates, LLC general consulting, grassroots advocacy, seminar and development training firm based in Jersey City, New Jersey
Dr. Thompson received a doctorate degree in Organizational Management at Capella University. Her dissertation topic was “An Examination of Leadership Styles of Minority Business Entrepreneurs: Case Study of Public Contracts in Hudson County”. A portion of the dissertation was published in the Journal of Business and Economic Studies, Fall 2010.
She received her Masters in Public Administration as well as her Bachelor of Science degree with a dual major in Psychology and Sociology from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey.
